Depressive disorder is a long term; recurrence is associated with high levels of disability and mortality. It has a neurobiological basis and is associated with functional and structural brain abnormalities. Genetic vulnerability and stress are the main factors that cause and development of a disease. Dysregulation of the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis reduces hippocampal volumes and anterior cortex (PFC) activity in depressed patients and disrupts physiological state inside the neurocircuit of depression. Antidepressants increase brain-derived neurotrophin, restoring vegetative cell growth and activity and modulate interactions between the neurocircuit anatomical structures.

The modulation of brain perform via the appliance of weak electrical energy was initial determined directly within the early nineteenth century. Within the past three decades, trans cranial magnetic stimulation and deep brain stimulation have undergone clinical translation, providing alternatives to medical specialty treatment of neurologic and medicine disorders. Additional development of novel Neuromodulation techniques using ultrasound, micro-scale magnetic fields and optogenetics is being propelled by a quickly up understanding of the clinical and experimental applications of unnaturally stimulating or depressing brain activity in human health and malady.

Future Prospects for Depression Research

Major Depression is a common, disabling, and often difficult-to-treat illness. Decades of research into the neurobiology and treatment of depression have greatly advanced our ability to manage this disorder. However, a number of challenges still persist. A substantial number of depressed patients do not achieve full remission despite optimized treatment. For patients who do achieve resolution of symptoms, depression remains a highly recurrent illness, and repeated episodes are common. Finally, little is known about how depression might be prevented, especially in individuals at increased risk. In the face of these challenges, a number of exciting research efforts are currently underway and promise to greatly expand our knowledge of the etiology, pathophysiology, and treatment of depression.

Neuroscience can offer a key data resulting in accommodation of human life and to forefront technology within the future. So, large-scale analysis programs on neuroscience are started in USA and Europe. The united states declared the "Decade of the Brain" in 1990. In 1991 Europe established the "Europe Decade of the Brain" Committee and has stirred up analysis activity. Following this trend, “The Law of the Promotion of neuroscience Research" was formulated in June 1998 and also the government-supported brain analysis program like “BrainTech” is currently continuing.
